Introducing Universal Till, Our Own Point of Sale

Most of our work is helping clients build and run their platforms. Universal Till is the product we build and run for ourselves: a point of sale for small shops, cafés and restaurants.

A till the shop actually owns

Universal Till is free and open source under the MIT licence, with no monthly fee for the core. It is offline-first, so a full sale completes with no internet at all; syncing is a bonus, never a requirement.

It runs on hardware a shop already has or can buy cheaply:

• a Raspberry Pi 4 or 5 with a touch screen
• an Android tablet
• a Windows or Linux PC or laptop, or an Apple Silicon Mac
• a proper touch terminal

Built to avoid lock-in

• No contracts or proprietary hardware.
• No payment-processor lock-in: the shop uses any card machine and any processor.
• A full catalogue and sales export to CSV, whenever the shop wants it.

Room to grow

The till speaks the shop’s language, including right-to-left layouts. A signed plugin marketplace adds payments, integrations, loyalty and themes, and every plugin is verified before it reaches the till. A second till joins by scanning a QR code and syncs over the shop’s own network. Owners can also manage the catalogue and till settings from any browser at my.universaltill.com.
